Using Open Source CMS for Improving Communication at CIC

This Project was initiated by the following students of Cluster Innovation Centre (CIC). University of Delhi; Manju Kumari Meena, Himani Swarup and Sangeeta Yadav, under the mentorship of Dr. Govind Singh.

Initial Project Summary: A section of the digital market which has significantly benefited from the proliferation of free and open source software’ (FOSS) is that of Content Management Systems (CMSs). Wikipedia (based on the Wiki CMS itself) defines CMS as a computer program that allows publishing, editing and modifying content as well as maintenance from a central interface. Such systems provide procedures to manage workflow in a collaborative environment and have been made available since the late 1990s. A plethora of CMSs exist in the market today which can be used as is, or can be customized to meet the needs of organisations, educational institutions as well as the industry at large.

The following project aims at improving the existing communication system at Cluster Innovation Centre (University of Delhi) using CMSs as a tool. The project will  study the diversity and types of existing CMSs and compare them with respect to their usefulness for CIC. A need assessment will also be carried out involving the students, faculty and staff of CIC, DU in order to identify the suitable CMS(s). Once identified, the CMS(s) will be deployed on a web server and an online tutorial for using these CMSs will also be prepared. The ultimate objective will not only be to deploy and install these CMSs but also ensure their usage through creative engagement tactics.

The project was  implemented in collaboration with the Magazine Committee of CIC, and benefited with inputs from Dr. Prem Kumari Srivastava. The Project Report was submitted to CIC and was evaluated.
