Zoological gardens have long been the rendezvous of people with wildlife, in a safe and secure manner. The Vienna Zoo, part of the imperial summer residence of Schönbrunn, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was founded in 1752 and claims to be the world’s oldest Zoo. Since then, nations around the world have created these Zoological Gardens, mainly in urban areas, for their citizens to be thrilled by being able to view the wild.
However of late, with greater awareness on animal rights issues, the relevance and validity of zoos have certainly come under question (Gross, 2015). The benefits derives from the zoos therefore need to be researched and brought forward, in order to understand and maintain the existence of zoos in the 21st century.
This research project aimed at identifying and assessing the educational benefits of the Delhi Zoo.
The findings of this research project were expanded and presented during the 6th National Conference on Biodiversity and Climate Change on 8-10, February 2018 at Maharaja Agrasen College, University of Delhi.
