Urban wetlands are critical ecosystems that play a key role in maintaining the health of cities and urban ecosystems. However, due to conditions inherent to urban ecosystems, wetlands in cities are highly vulnerable to destruction and degradation. Destruction and disappearance of wetlands is already having devastating effects in densely populated urban centres.
With this as the backdrop, the Urban Ecology – Research and Action (uERA) Laboratory began research for preparing an inventory of wetlands located in cities, with an initial project to create an inventory of wetlands located in North Delhi. This project is now being expanded by Delhi Greens to create an inventory of all wetlands located in Delhi NCR.
